Vejle Library would recycle many of their deleted books instead of sending them to incineration. The concept, in its simplicity, was about reusing the old books in a new construction that in the creation and finished product should include constructive and creative children. We ended up with the idea of a bookshelf, where new stories under the vault of the old books could be told. Mauhaus developed a basic structure where the books could be attached. The construction method should be so simple that children could participate in the building and so affordable that the children could see the project move forward in a short period of time. Safety, material price and mobility were among the most crucial design parameters that were incorporated and formed the basis of the concept. Boghulen stands today at Vejle Library as a testament to a process in which children of different ages actively contributed to the creation of a unique subject with a wealth of applications.
